Waterlase Dentistry

waterlase

Typically when most people think of the going to the dentist, quite often fear is associated with their thoughts.  We tend to remember bad experiences rather than the good ones.  We think of the high pitch sound of the drill, and  of course the needle.  Fortunately times are changing in dentistry and we now have more advanced technology to help reduce the fear in dental patients.

Waterlase dentistry is a laser energy combined with water used to perform a wide range of dental procedures. It is an extremely precise and accurate device allowing the dentist to take a conservative approach with all dental treatment.  We are proud to offer this remarkable technology for our patients at Dentistry @ Brockville.

Our main goal is to keep our patients relaxed and comfortable.  The waterlase assists us in keeping this goal.  It doesn’t make a high pitched sound like the traditional handpiece or cause vibration or pressure.  It allows us to use fewer injections for anesthesia and quite often no injections are required for children’s dental treatment.  This is a great benefit because the dentist can perform cavity preparations in all areas of the mouth in one visit. As well as avoid that annoying sensation of numb lips.  Waterlase dentistry also allows a dentist to perform procedures that he/or she may have referred to specialists in the past, such as crown lengthening.  It is a very versatile and conservative tool. The healing period after surgeries is remarkably quicker because there is less trauma to the gum tissue when the Waterlase is used unlike the scalpel and traditional drill.

If you should have any questions or want more information in regards to the Waterlase, please feel free to contact our office at 613-341-9000 or visit www.biolase.com.

VELscope
Oral Cancer Screening System

velscope

The average dentist will see three to five patients a day who exhibit soft tissue abnormalities.  Cheek biting, canker sores and lesions from poor fitting dentures are some examples of tissue trauma that we witness daily.  Though these lesions are benign they share similarities with dangerous lesions.  It is up to us the dental professional to distinguish between the two. We are very fortunate to be able to offer Velscope to our patients.
VELscope is an oral cancer screening system.  This technology was developed in collaboration with the British Columbia Cancer Agency and MD Anderson Cancer Center, with funding provided by the NIH. It is quite unfortunate that only 35% of oral cancer cases are diagnosed in earlier stages.  Early diagnosis can increases the 5 year survival rate form 52% to 90%.  With the help of VELscope we can detect potentially dangerous growths beneath the surface that we may not have detected with our conventional oral screening exam. An incandescent light used to enhance the visualization of oral tissue abnormalities.  The fluorescence changes in the tissue enable us to differentiate between normal and abnormal findings. The VELscope technology is the only non-invasive adjunctive device clinically proven to help discover occult oral disease.

Preventive Dentistry

We believe in identifying and addressing dental concerns at the earliest stage possible.  Our recommendation is to bring your child for their first visit to the dentist once their first primary tooth has erupted.
We love to interact with children, and want their first visit to the dentist to be an exciting time for them.  They will enjoy a ride in the dental chair, watch their favorite movie while we count their teeth but most importantly visit the big treasure box!
